Genetics & Breeding of Vegetable Crops
HOS 6932, Section 3081 (offered Fall semester in even numbered years)

This course examines the role of plant breeding and scientific research in vegetable crop improvement, genetic diversity, germplasm resources and conservation, government policies, and consumer preferences. This course also examines how traditional breeding and molecular methods can be used to meet specific objectives and challenges facing the development of new vegetable varieties.

Molecular Markers in Plant Breeding
HOS 6932, Section 3081 (offered Fall semester in odd numbered years)

This course is for students interested in having hands-on experience using various molecular markers for the improvement of plants. Objectives include reviewing methods and applications of molecular marker systems used in plant breeding, providing hands-on experience of common marker techniques in a laboratory setting, analyzing molecular marker data using various statistical software packages.
