FLORIDA PEACH FIELD DAY

10AM TO 1 PM THURSDAY, May 3, 2007

AT THE PLANT SCIENCE RESEARCH AND EDUCATION CENTER

WEST HIGHWAY 318 BETWEEN HIGHWAY 301 AND 1441.

Management of spring and summer diseases and pests will be discussed, including bacterial spot, peach rust, and peach tree borers. This planting, about 25 miles south of Gainesville which has an estimated 300 to 400 chilling hours, is unusual for having peaches, nectarines, and plums with a chilling requirement ranging from 150 to 375 chilling hours (listed below). Overhead irrigation is used in this planting for freeze protection, especially of low chill cultivars.

After a short discussion of management practices, we'll look at trees of these cultivars and taste fruit when available.
