Students in the Horticultural Sciences Department are eligible for $45,000 worth of scholarships each year. In addition, the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences offers over $400,000 in scholarships to students each year. As a member of the Horticultural Sciences Department, students are eligible for both college scholarships and departmental scholarships listed below.

The Diane Fisher Scholarship
We would like to announce UFIC has established two scholarships to be given to two undergraduate international students for outstanding service.
The Diane Fisher Scholarship will be given to two outstanding undergraduate international students at the Awards Ceremony on Thursday, November 19, 2009 at 5:30pm in the Grand Ball Room.  This is the sixth year this scholarship will be given in honor of Diane Fisher who passed away in October 2003.  Diane Fisher, an Admissions Document Specialist was an employee of UF for 15 years.  She worked closely with departments and students to ensure proper and timely processing of student documents.  She was an individual who always gave more than was required of her.  UFIC wants to honor her memory of dedication by establishing the annual Diane Fisher Scholarship to international students who show exemplary service to UF and/or the Gainesville community.  We are pleased to announce we will be presenting two scholarships this year of $500.00 each.

The nominees should meet the following criteria:

  • Currently enrolled in a bachelor program.
  • Demonstrates at least a 3.0 G.P.A.
  • Exhibits outstanding service/contributions to their department/UF or broader community.
  • A non-immigrant J or F visa holder.

Upon meeting the above criteria you may nominate yourself or another student by submitting the following:

  • An essay of 800-1000 words describing the service you have performed for UF and/or the Gainesville community.
  • Submit 2 letters of references from sources, other than family or friends, supporting information in the essay.

This award will be presented at the UFIC Awards Ceremony on Thursday, November 19, 2009 at 5:30 p.m. in the Grand Ball Room.  A selection committee appointed by the University of Florida International Center will choose and rank the submitted nominees.

Please submit your essay and reference letters to Mabel Cardec by Friday, October 16, 2009.

Florida Agricultural Conference and Trade (FACT) Scholarship
$500 awarded to an outstanding undergraduate in Horticultural Sciences.

Harry R. Manee, Sr. / Florida Seedsmen and Garden Supply Association Scholarship
A $500 scholarship for students majoring in horticultural sciences, based on scholarship, leadership.

Horticutural Sciences Department Scholarship

John Sites Memorial Scholarship
$500 to $1,000 awarded to a student majoring in horticultural sciences, based on scholarship and academic record.

Lewis W. Ziegler Memorial Scholarship
$750 awarded to a student in horticultural sciences and is based on academic merit.

The Phelps Foundation Trust Scholarships
Approximately 20 scholarships ranging in amount, will be awarded each year to students in horticultural science. The scholarships are awarded based on scholarship and academic record. Application

Peter Spyke Scholarship
$500 to $1,000 awarded to a student majoring in horticultural sciences, based on scholarship and academic record.

Southwest Florida Vegetable Growers Scholarship
A $500 to $1,000 scholarship for students majoring in horticultural sciences, with programs of study in agribusiness and agricultural production or agricultural sciences who have a sincere desire to pursue a career in production. Based on academic merit and professional potential.

Syngenta Student Scholarship
The scholarship will be presented during FFVA’s 66th Annual Convention in September and is open to Florida high school seniors and college students interested in pursuing a career in agriculture.
