April 8, 2008- EREC Field Day – The Everglades Research and Education Center will hold a field day on April 8, 2008 from 7:45am -3:00pm. The field day will include a station tour of ongoing research projects including turfgrass, sugarcane, water quality, vegetables, soil and pest management. May 6, 2008 – Water & Nutrient Management with Drip Irrigation on Small Farms – The Northeast Florida Small Farms Working Group will present a water & nutrient management workshop for niche market producers May 6, 2008 first at the Franklin Farm and then at the Cognito Farm beginning at 5:00 pm. The topics of the workshop will include: the advantages of drip irrigation vs. overhead irrigation; nutrient measuring equipment; building a fertilizer program for drip irrigated crops; and water, fertilizer and best management practices. Speakers will include Jim DeValerio, UF/IFAS Bradford County Extension office, Bob Hochmuth and Mace Bauer, UF/IFAS North Florida Research and Education Center, and Eric Simonne, UF/IFAS Horticultural Sciences Department. May 28, 2008 – Escambia County Farm Tour – The 2008 Escambia County farm tour will be held May 28, 2008 at the Langley Bell 4-H Center. The tour will include visits to Touchablue Blueberry Farm, Escambia Grain, Emerald Coast Growers, Bayer CropScience, Wheat harvest and conservation planting.
