Crystal Snodgrass, The new UF/IFAS, Manatee County Vegetable Extension Agent

 

 

 

Crystal received her B.S. degree and M.S. from the University of Florida. Go Gators! During her undergraduate studies, she majored in entomology with an emphasis on plant protection and minored in horticulture. After graduating in 2003, she immediately began her graduate work. She became a student assistant in Dr. Oscar Liburd's Small Fruit and Vegetable Integrated Pest Management (IPM) laboratory where she studied IPM of sap beetle pests of strawberries. She graduated in 2005 and moved to southwest Florida where she worked as a biologist for Manatee County Mosquito Control District. Crystal wanted to pursue a career in agriculture so she took a position as a vegetable scout with Agricultural Crop Consulting Inc. She worked there for two years and has recently accepted the position of Vegetable Extension Agent for Manatee County . As the new extension agent she will implement programs to educate the public, work with local growers, and collaborate with University of Florida researchers. She hopes to continue the work of the recently retired and much loved, Phyllis Gilreath. Crystal is a newlywed and new homeowner as well as mother to two rambunctious German Shepherds.
